Choosing Your Plastic Surgeon

Choosing your plastic surgeon is not a decision that you should take lightly. Keep in mind that the results you get will almost entirely depend on the skills of your surgeon. If you choose badly, you can be stuck with an undesired result for the rest of your life.

The qualifications of your surgeon should be of vital importance to you. Be sure to ask him a few questions about his background and his training as a physician. Assuming that that your surgeon is reputable enough, he should have no problems answering your questions. Don?t hesitate to ask about your doctor?s education, his medical license, certifications, and memberships in professional societies. If you feel the need for it, you can also ask your surgeon about his specialized training in cosmetic surgery.

A surgeon?s operating experience is also important. You probably don?t want to be a surgeon?s first patient. You want a doctor who?s been performing operations for a long time; someone who?s developed a superior level of expertise in his field. Ask about your surgeon?s past cases. While he probably cannot disclose everything, he should be able to tell you about his past successes.

Asking for referrals can also simplify the process of finding a good surgeon. If any of your family and friends has gone through a cosmetic surgery procedure, their recommendations will probably be a good place to start your search. But be careful. Most surgeons have a specialty; an area of surgery where they are most proficient at. Just because a surgeon has a good track record with breast augmentation, it doesn?t mean that he is the best qualified to perform an abdominoplasty.
